PODs is a series of introductory texts providing high quality information on aspects of human communication, with particular emphasis on speech, language and communication needs and approaches to therapy. Each volume in the series provides simple – but not simplistic – introductions that spin practitioner and academic perspectives into highly readable texts. Being introductory they do not claim to cover all aspects of a particular field of study. Rather, they are designed to enthuse the reader to learn more. They are a stepping-off point, a point of departure on the journey of investigating human communication in its various aspects.

PODs are suitable as either general interest volumes or as more focused introductions for a wide variety of people concerned with human communication. This includes students, teachers, teaching assistants, teachers of English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), psychologists, and other professionals wishing to revise or update their knowledge.
